eh, I don't think that's gonna make much of a difference:

most of the cost is probably lost revenue from the stopped flow, not the pump itself!

that said you're almost at the ideal target already!

it's best to sabotage the nexus point nearest the pipeline source: that way you knock out the largest part of the network resulting in the most damage by disabling most of the network!

tl;dr: knock out infrastructure as close to the source as possible, that isn't actually the source!

(because sabotaging the source is a really, really bad idea, see: every oil spill ever)

(and for fucks sake, don't do any of this in winter...people might freeze, if there's no time to come up with alternative energy sources...which is why late spring is the best time to blow up a pipeline! :D )

Astrology and homeopathy doesn’t even begin to fucking compare with nazism

sooooo...ummmm...here's the craziest thing; hold on, you're not gonna believe this:

the nazis were SUPER into astrology, homeopathy, and similar shit!

nazi occultism is essential to nazi ideology, so not only are these concepts intimately intertwined, they form one of the pillars on which nazi iedology is built: "alternate science"

"alterantive science", "aryan science", or whatever else it's called (it doesn't actually matter, all of it is the exact same shit: NOT science), is an important part of fascist power structures in that it serves as a vehicle to legitimize the crazy racist and supremacist shit they want to believe.

phrenology, homeopathy, eugenics, and all the rest of the dogmatic bullshit played a major role in the 3rd reich by delegitimize the "jewish science".

sound familiar? it should!

the modern equivalent is "woke science", which, you know, is just regular science...

so, no, nazi ideology doesn't "compare" to astrology and homeopathy: those are essential parts of nazism and the associated anti-intellectualism!

(ExtraHistory has a recent video series on the topic of nazi occultism; it's on youtube and nebula, if you're interested to learn more!)

Also, why do you call out astrology but not christianity?

not sure how it would play out nowadays, especially in the U.S., but in the 3rd reich the church was a significant source of resistance against nazi rule.

the reasons for that include the church having a vested interest in keeping some control over the population and it's own propaganda, but the vast majority of resistance came from individual clergy members refusing to bow to the cruelty of the nazis, and defending their communities.

these priests resisted both directly and indirectly, rallied rebels, organized smuggling operations, provided meeting places, sheltered refugees, sabotaged, and generally made the jobs of the nazi oppressors that much harder.

many, MANY clergy members were murdered by the nazis for their resistance, and quite a few officially received martyrdom status, and a few are regarded as national heroes for their efforts!

so i'm an atheist, vehemently against the church and think that:

  • it's an institution of power and control over the poorly educated to keep them nice and distracted from the class struggle
  • think the tax exempt status of churches, with little to no oversight on how that tax-free income is spent, is bullshit
  • the priesthood serves as a shield for masses of sexual predators
  • the indoctrination of young and vulnerable minds that haven't had a chance to develop countermeasures to such influence is morally abhorrent
  • the church has, and in some cases continues to, committed heinous crimes against humanity

...but you chose the one period in history that actually makes it kinda clear what benefits the church does provide.

like i said, i'm not a fan, and if it wasn't the church i'm fairly confident others would have stepped up and taken on similar roles of resistance, as many indeed did at the time, and yet this is one of the few instances in which the members of the clergy were quite clearly on the right side of history for once...possibly the only time.

sooooo...yeah...unlucky example in this (very specific) context...

there's a lot fascinating history around these two topics, highly recommend checking it out! ;)

is there a modern equivalent that describes "i function differently from NTs, but am generally able to live my life without special accomodations"?

because i've been described as high functioning and never really thought much about it, but the nazi connection is...uncomfortable...

[–] 9bananas 1 points 1 week ago

i guess "asshole" fits

i know you probably weren't looking for a swearword, but...well...if it fits ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

and let's be real...the people you're referring to tend to be ignorant by choice, offensive, and generally unpleasant...

ah, that's what it was!

i was pretty confused by the cc, thought i got caught in some drama there!

all good, thanks for the clarification!

yo, read my comment again.

it wasn't specifically about the ban drag received:

my comment was only in reference to the mass bans of any remotely positive, or even just neutral (and my case not even directly connected) comment about luigi...

it has nothing to do with any ableist or bigoted shit, just about the ridiculous zealotry by the .world mods specifically about "promoting violence" and making up rules on the spot, on violation of the .world ToS and rules of conduct, which explicitly state that ban should always cite the rule being broken.

i know exactly nothing about drags behavior that led to their ban, but since i do know how trigger happy .world mods are about luigi comments and posts, i made the assumption that it was just that.

thank you for providing the relevant context.

that said, please keep in mind that my comment is not in support of drag and their behavior, and is instead solely a criticism of the general mod behavior on .world and asklemmy specifically.

honestly shouldn't be surprised, the ask[thing] communities tend to have overzealous moderation on any platform...

the cosmere series as a whole (of which the mistborn saga is a part) reeeeaaaally straddles the line between sci-fi and fantasy;

it's all a kind of "hard fantasy", where all of the powers that people use are strictly limited by a certain energy source (don't want to spoil anything here, even though it's a kind of unimportant detail overall).

so, in the mistborn saga for example, people swallow certain metals and use those metals to power certain abilities, depending on the metal, which uses up said metal. if it runs out, there's no way to power those abilities anymore. and it DOES run out, it's very much finite.

so if you like sci-fi, especially more on the hard sci-fi side, and have been enjoying some fantasy lately, i think it might be right up your alley! ;)

the books are the mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, and it's second trilogy; wax and wayne.

the physics bit is central to both, but it's a bigger focus in the second trilogy.

highly recommend all of them!

and for more wacky ideas..well, the entire rest of the cosmere series! especially tress of the emerald sea, which is largely standalone, but contains quite a bit of in-universe lore...

[–] 9bananas 1 points 2 weeks ago

that's all of .world...

.world has some really odd ideas about "promoting violence", especially given that there are literally nazis marching the streets in the U.S. and germany...like, the nazis can scream "kill all the [insert slur]!" on the streets just fine, but woe be the anti-fascist on .world that says that maybe, just maybe, it's time to do something about, you know, THE NAZIS.

now that i think about it...pretty sure the solarpunk portion is in the second part, Freedom™ (it's not the focus, more of a background thing)

[–] 9bananas 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

given that:

lately the buzzwords “techno-anarchism”, “solarpunk”, “trans-humanism” and “urbanism” have been ricocheting around my mind

and the book recs; have you read Daemon, by Daniel Suarez? because that book (and the sequel Freedom™) match exactly those tags! ;)

(well...plus a bit good bot of Cyberpunk, which i'm guessing you don't mind)
