Iirc gambling ads are banned in the UK. Doesn't stop every low rent area having heaps of betting shops.

This seems like such a huge flaw in Lemmy that any of that content needs to reside on your server just because a user wants to view it. I honestly thought the user profile just kept a list of preferences and subbed communities to populate a feed on demand for the user.

I don't know what the structural fix is but, do they simply step in and say variable mortgage rates are now an unfair term in the loan contract and require a min 2 year fixed rate or something? Just workshopping this really, I can already imagine some unintended consequences

Lol I actually disagree with this mildly. One big issue with Reddit was US defaultism so I think that an Aussie server just having Finance is a refreshing step away from that.

At this point I think a rent increase email is the best image to capture the zeitgeist

Yeah I proposed that on one of the GitHub feature requests for Lemmy, per-instance configurable multi dimensional voting. The default implementation to be "relevant/irrelevant" and "agree/disagree"

I'm hoping Lemmy gets something like a configurable user flag option: from user profile, from IP geolocation, off.

get to the github repo and chuck a comment in support of this with maybe some description of your use case and benefits too

Multicom

Or true blue fashion, repurpose betting lingo "same name multi"?

Yeah I'm hoping that comes soon, user manageable merge lists so I can deal with nice.place/c/Australia and fun.people/c/Australia but not echo.chamber/c/Australia

Very keen to settle somewhere where American "community standards" aren't enforced to the detriment of all other cultures.

You haven't specified whereabouts you're staying but generally the library activities are amazing and free, plus just being outside is fun here! Walking along the foreshore at Wynnum or Sandgate, playing in the big playgrounds like Kidspace (Chermobyl), Hidden World (Fitzgibbon) or Pine Rivers (sort of Bald Hills) are amazing. Nature walks in areas like Mt. Coot-tha, Bunyaville or Tinchi Tamba (sort of Bracken Ridge) are all great too, as you can access nature within a 1-year-old's range.
