Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

I don't know if I'm just missing an option somewhere or if it doesn't exist yet, but I don't see anywhere to configure push notifications to my android phone.

Its a new app, I'm thinking of making my own, not that I think I could do better but just to try work is enough programming though.

Still, I say give it a few weeks. Let the devs get a handle on Android and this explosive growth.

Does the Lemmy backend support push notifications? If not, Jerboa can't.

That's a good point. I have no idea.

At this point I think it's not implemented yet

the app seems to be lacking quite a few features currently, I'm having a better experience using Lemmy in a web browser

I know I could do the same, but I want to be in touch with the app as it progresses.

I was wondering that too. I was under the impression that Jerboas notification option in settings was push notifications but I think I might be mistaken. Might just be notifications within the app?

I did get notifications that someone replied to my post and that someone replied to my comment.
