I saw somewhere that the Nordic word for computer can be translated as number witch, so I thought I'd try to visualize that.

Not really important, as the idea is cool, but regardless; as a Nordic, i can't think of a single word we use for computer that would translate to number witch 🤔

It's the icelandic word Tölva!

A mix of Tölur (numbers) and Völva (Seeress).

I guess the rest of you nords dont know how to make up cool new words like us!

Jeg spiser en sandwich og bruger min computer. 😅

Vs

Ég borða samloku og nota tölvuna mína.

Aaah! The thought did strike me that maybe it could be Icelandic or Finnish, i know you guys up in Iceland in particular are really dedicated to inventing new native words for absolutely everything, and never using loan words

The Völva is the one telling Odin about Ragnarök.

That's it! Thank you kind person. Clearly my ability to remember random stuff I see on the internet isn't great.

Wow, that article has me in the first paragraph. I marked it to come back to and find some books on. Thank you! I love this kind of stuff.

These are really good, but it’s the last one that I really love. The first thing I thought of when I read your title was a children’s tv character who teaches kids to count. Like, a group of kids are quarreling over how to divide candy and a voice off-screen would say “What you need is to be a little bit more mathemagical!” and the camera would pan to this numerical wonder. Followed by all the kids exclaiming “It’s the Number Witch!”

Probably ends with a lovely little song about how proper division is sharing :)

Oh I love that, what a whimsical and sweet moment.
