Probably one of the best phones I have ever used. Lasted a good 6 years of heavy use with me.

Mine still chugs along, I upgraded, but keep my s7 as a backup. A friend of mine had an iPhone that bricked itself with an update one day out of warranty, so he's using it right now until he can afford to buy a new phone. He says he's switching to android.
Same. Edge model. Replaced the battery when it started to swell and let water in. One of the first and best IP68 phones. Even took it into the pool! It's now rooted and I use it as a backup because I had no confidence pulling off the battery swap.
Ahhhh, yeah, mine was an edge too. It was such a good phone. I really miss the edge swipe functionality, being able to see the time and what notifications you have, without using always on screen or turning the screen on, was so very good. I miss it so much.

That looks like the symbol Gandalf puts on the door of Bilbo's door
With that thick case, I am surprised it broke.
Would you be able to let us know how the phone broke @[email protected] ?
The OP of the post doesn't really confirm anything on how this even happened. But if I had to guess, it looks like the AMOLED display has "rotted" which happens when the organic materials in the display (the 'O' in OLED) are exposed to the atmosphere or moisture which results in decomposition of those organic materials. I don't know the actual chemistry behind this, it's way too out of my scope. There's not much information I could find from a quick search regarding how this truly works.
The phone is cracked, so a gap may have formed between the display and its protective layer through which moisture could get to and cause this. But there's also a faint black outline right around where the battery usually is, so that could've also done something.
Isn't S7 the one that blows up?
That was the Note 7
