Miniflux + News App (self.selfhosted)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) by conrad82 to c/selfhosted

I started using miniflux a while back, and enjoy it. Recently I also gave News app on F-droid a try, and the combination of the two is one of the best news reading experiences I've had.

Miniflux: https://miniflux.app/

News app: https://github.com/bubelov/news

Just wanted to share!

EDIT: Based on comment from @[email protected] , I am now mostly using Flux News https://github.com/KevinCFechtel/FluxNews . But I could go either way

I'll give that news app a try. I've been doing Mini flux with FeedMe as a reader.

I'm a Miniflux user as well but prefer the Flux News app: https://github.com/KevinCFechtel/FluxNews

I'm trying it out now 🙂 I didn't know about this one, thanks!

I miss the swipe to mark as read. Otherwise it looks nice, I'll try it for a few days!

I've been using miniflux for a while now ok Android, why should I prefer News app?

It works OK from the web page, but scrolling to the next item was a bit wonky for me. Using the swipe mode mis-fired when I was horisontally scrolling code. And double tapping didn't always work.

The UX feels smoother in News. You also get thumbnail images. And you can open the link to the source directly, which I prefer for some of my feeds. For me, the experience is smoother.

It worked great for me for a long time but after the One UI 6 update on Samsung it became so slow that it's now unusable on my phone.

Nice! I'll try it

Thanks for sharing. The news client is just fantastic. I have been using miniflux for a long time on my little raspberry 4B, and the web interface is fine, but after trying the client, I think I will use it from now on, thank you.
