It's gonna take time

r/whenthe but Lemmy.
GIF macros.
You like text on GIF memes? Cool, we do also.
No idea what the fuck we mean? Look at the other posts and you'll get the gist.
Join in and have fun lads.
P.S. It might be easiest to upload your GIFs to Imgur/Giphy and put a direct link as your post (thus embedding) as Lemmy often doesn't play nicely with them natively.
It takes time. There are server issues due to expansion and apps are still in (rapid) development. I think it’ll take months to get things active and running smoothly.
Well of course a new site has some ramp up time compared to an 18 year old platform.
The lack of gifs and short videos is a BIG downside IMO.
Gifs links to imgr seem to work just fine. If you check my posts you can see one. Posted through Memmy and it automatically uploaded the gif i made to imgr and worked flawlessly.
Wow, I had no idea. I had no idea OP's post was a gif!
Jerboa has no indication that it's a moving picture, until you explicitly open it. Weird!
Hopefully that’s on Jerboa’s list of feature improvements. But yea, I’m pretty sure on the web and other apps the gifs play just fine. They also play in the timeline without needing to open it.
Yeah, proper video/gif support is a top issue for me, personally. I’ve tried Memmy, Mlem, Liftoff!, and Thunder and so far, only Thunder even plays webm’s for me properly
I have liftoff, and gifs seem to play fine?
I just updated and everything is fine now 🤷♀️
Agreed. Most of my Reddit posts were short mp4 clips. Would be awesome if this was also possible on Lemmy.
It’ll take time, especially since they never expected the server load and are upgrading as they go. Chances are most are figuring it out as they go and might not understand the apps, or are waiting for official apps to drop.
Lemmy.world especially has been getting a lot of activity. So many users use it as their default instance.
I think it seems more active than a month ago.
The font is wrong, whenthe has a very specific format so things like that are important
the font always looked the same to me compared to other posts idk if what you say is true. could you, then, give me a pointer to the proper font?
Some reddit apps are still running.
