Bats are cool

Bats are the only true flying mammals. There are over 1,400 species of bats, and they can be found on nearly every part of the planet. Not only are they cute, they are also important...

Studying how bats use echolocation has helped scientists develop navigational aids for the blind. Without bats’ pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control we wouldn’t have bananas, avocados, mangoes, agave, or cacao… that’s right, bats bring us tequila and chocolate!

Our community's mascot is Baxter. Baxter is an Egyptian fruit bat that was cruelly kept alone and confined to a small cage for 12 years before being rescued by a bat sanctuary. You can read the full story by clicking on his name.

Aren't bats amazing? Among the most beautiful and bizarre of earth's creatures. I love the way their wings are shaped. The few times I've encountered bats in person I've stood in amazement, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer beauty.

I couldn't agree more! They are beautiful and so important to biodiversity and pollination.

They've always fascinated me in so many ways. But then again I also love snakes and lizards - so, maybe it's just me, but yes it's the very diversity and array of beauty in nature that always takes my breath away.

I mostly love their goofy faces while eating fruit.

They have very cute faces. Too bad about the "rabies" thing, I mean I know it's not that common, but if weren't for that I'd probably own a Bat-tery (or what do you call a bat "owlery?").
