Cocktails, the libationary art!

A place for conversation about cocktails, ingredients, home mixology, the bar industry or liquor industry, glassware - this is not an exhaustive list. If you think it's in some way related to cocktails it's probably fine.

If you post something you didn't create give credit whenever possible.

Pictures and recipes are encouraged when posting a drink as a standalone post. Example of an ideal drink post:

We love garnishes.

Remember the code of conduct, keep it nice. In terms of cocktails- specific etiquette that might be different from other communities:

Mentioning your blog, insta, website, book or bar is allowed, yes. For now at least, we do allow self-promotion. If it gets out of hand this might change.

A good post with a drink you don't like is still a good post! Try not to conflate the drink and the post or poster. If someone has a relevant title, gorgeous photo and clearly formatted recipe of what you consider a truly terrible drink, a comment is more appropriate than a downvote.

On that topic: Polite critique/reviews of drinks (or posts, images, etc.) is allowed here. Encouraged , even. It's a good tool for improving your drinks and content. Really, just be nice.

Ever since I got a shaker a year ago, my goto drink is a Margarita. Just love them.

After making them at the home, I can't drink margaritas when I'm out anymore.

It's three ingredients! Why is everyone messing with it? They always use some kind of mix or add flavors.

There is a Bad Margaritas thread in this community somewhere but I agree so hard. 2 parts tequila, 1 part orange liqueur, 1 part lime works for me, it's so ridiculously delicious for something so simple.

If someone wants a lighter one I do 1.5 parts tequila, 1 part orange juice, 1 part lime juice and a little bit of simple syrup.

Not even sure what margarita mix IS. There's nothing to mix, really. You need the fresh lime for it to taste good, and you need the tequila, so what's in the mix?

Exactly. It’s not difficult, folks!

The fresh lime juice really makes a difference, feels like the easiest way to mess up a margarita is with bad lime juice

That looks delicious!

What is your recipe?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Thanks man!

I pretty much use the recipe of the guy of the „How to drink“ channel on YouTube.

  • 1 oz or 30ml of fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz or 30 ml of orange liqueur (I use Cointreau)
  • 2 oz or 60 ml of tequila out of 100% agaves

I do not only strain the ice, but also filter the cocktail through a fine sieve to get the lime particles out. But that’s just a preference of mine.

Looks delicious! I do love margaritas. Here’s the recipe I use:

  • 2oz tequila 100% agave
  • 2oz lime juice
  • 1.25oz simple syrup
  • 1.5oz grand marnier

Also, if you like margaritas, find yourself a bottle of cachaça and try a caiparinha (or two, but take it easy bc they kick like a mule).
