This might me a small nitpick to some but I truly think smooth in-line scaling and Youtube embedding are EXTREMELY important to the platform. Above is just that in RES. I am not sure about this on mobile, but desktop is also important!

100%. That, and endless scrolling. If someone could code those in as an extension or a front-end software update, I would be so happy.

Although my doom-scrolling would only be completely enabled by that lol. I can cope πŸ‘€ maybe

RES was a godsend. I hope lemmy will incorporate in-line scaling! Youtube embedding, not so much...

Early days but I'm using this which makes it feel a little bit more like old Reddit.

I found out through sorting by new today that there is a community about lemmy browser plugin/scripts, which introduced me to LemmyTools that allows one to resize image.

I tried LemmyTools, but scaling was a bit janky. It seems to ignore the original size of the image when you initiate the scaling.

edit: I even tried editing the script, but I inadvertently increased the jankyness by a factor of about 2.5. I blame laziness and chatGPT.

No reason an RES-like extension for lemmy can't be developed - we need to get in touch with the RES guys about this!

I believe lemmynsfw has this feature for images but not videos yet.

YouTube is a centralized commercial service, but there's PeerTube.
