What is up with “Estados Unidos” being “EE. UU.”? Is this like that weird rule in Latin anatomy?

Yes, I think it comes from the same rule. Estados Unidos is plural, so the abbreviation is doubled single letters. Sometimes English does this too (pp. for pages or §§ for sections). There are other examples in Spanish too.
I don't know what its origin is (maybe a native speaker can weigh in) but it's standard.

americans are a disaster on this planet: drive a pick-up truck, grow lawns, eat exotic fruits, smallest state to state trip is done by airplane, and probably would choose 'drill baby drill' Trump in the next elections. Tbh the rest of the world need to have a say on US elections too, like maybe allow europeans to vote too ?
