I still have to do Lafayette or any Whites in winter. Is it mostly spikes or need to also bring snowshoes? Presidentials has been one of my favourite hikes so far.

I carried both on Lafayette, and on all my winter hikes in the Whites. The trail conditions can vary a lot depending on altitude, exposure to wind, recent freeze-thaw cycles, etc.

I miss the Whites a lot. Didn't finish bagging all the 4,000-footers before I moved away. Someday I want to go back and complete the list.
