How do you insulate your tech in winter?

Howdy people! Recently I moved to colder climate and struggled to keep my wireless overhead headphones (WH1000XM3) from malfunctioning in the cold. Have you got any tips?

This is the way. Next question I assume will be how to stop sweating in -20C..

If you don't feel like taking up the Hannu Karpo aesthetic, you can also get karvahattus for your gear.

This is the correct answer. And any other proper beanie will keep your head (and headphones) warm enough to function if you don't happen to own a proper karvalakki.

You don't know how much you need one of these until you have one.

Here's something I learned as a southerner who moved to Finland: observe the Finns, buy what they buy and do what they do. They know.

And given a choice between a product made in Finland bearing the avainlippu mark and one made by someone else, go with the Finnish product: the mark really does mean genuine quality that really does work in the cold, and it's usually worth the extra money.

I remember the XM3's had issues with the touch the first winter they were released, but I think a firmware update resolved or reduced the issue, a friend of mine have the XM3's here in Sweden (west Finland?) and i have not heard him have any issues

Happens in cold climate everywhere. Put your phone in your jacket pocket and go for a run and it has shut off from the cold when you get home from your run 🥶

If you use over the ear headphones while walking, skiing or bicycling, it will be difficult to keep them warm. A few years ago I got Bose QuietControl 30 semi-wireless buds, and they are a lot easier to keep warm due to their size and shape.

The battery, and most of the electronics are around your neck, so you can easily protect them with a scarf. The buds are smaller than headphones, so they can be protected with a proper hat.

Op, you have the xm3 model that had problems in lower temperatures from the release. I heard they fixed it way later with newer batches. I think owners of the old ones are stuck with disabling the touch-area in the app.

I have the XM2 and XM4 and use them while riding a bike even when it gets really cold. No problems. https://i.imgur.com/IeU3K2a.jpg
