Great idea. I've been growing my own opml for the same purpose as you, I hoped to share it so other people could populate Lemmy instances (especially Mander, because I am not qualified to filter the good science from the bad before posting). I got sidetracked, though.
Have you looked into RSS bridge for websites like AP news and Reuters that no longer have RSS? It looks like this: https://rss-bridge.org/bridge01/
I was just going to docker a changedetector but I'll look into this too :)
I figure I can share mine.
I aimed at granularity, so I grabbed as many category/tag feeds as I could, by website. There's obviously a LOT of duplicate content when you enable all the feeds. Cherry-picking recommended 🍒
I'm still in the process of going through @fossilesque 's opml to find more interesting sources.

How do you use RSS Feeds? Forgive my ignorance but I haven't used them myself 😅 What program (an RSS reader, I guess) do you recommend for looking at that feed?
https://www.freshrss.org/ or a million other programs on an app store, outlook has a feed reader, lots of walled garden apps too
