PER with the deleted laptime

This has been an awful season for him. I think if he continues like this through next year they'll find someone to replace him (and it won't be RIC)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I say give Yuki a shot next year, he has been improving and is more consistent

[–] BURN 2 points 1 year ago

I'm inclined to agree. Yuki has matured a ton and you can see it in his driving. I'm worried it's still a little too early, but at a certain point it's sink or swim

[–] Determinator 1 points 1 year ago

Agreed, I'd love to see what Yuki could do in the Red Bull

[–] breakerfall 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Put him RIC in the ~~Toro Rosso~~ ~~Roro Tosso~~ Bed Rull next year.

[–] lhx 2 points 1 year ago

Agreed. Seriously doubt it will be DR. Maybe they give Yuki a partial season try like Gasly or Albon. Whatever they do, I imagine if Horner and Marko are leaning opposite ways, Horner’s choice gets taken since DeVries isn’t panning out.

He's still in second place in the championship and brings a lot of sponsorship money. Max will be champion and red bull will win the constructors this year. Unless the other teams catch up, I'm not sure red bull would risk replacing him with an unknown quantity or with someone who could really challenge Max before 2024. He will probably be gone after that though (end of his current contract)

[–] BURN 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I think they give him next season, and at the end of the contract they just won't renew and can promote Yuki (or Lawson if he's really as fast as they say)

There's no reason for them to break the contract early and it'd only hurt them

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

At least he has pace this weekend

[–] Schnitzie 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Was it confirmed to not be RIC? He wasn't too sharp last year, but if he finds himself some motivation he might not perform worse than Perez at this point.

[–] BURN 1 points 1 year ago

There's a lot of hype around RIC, but I don't think they'd give him the seat. If they're going to replace PER they'll probably look at the AT drivers first

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

don't think De Vries is going to make it to the end of the season

he isn't the future at Red Bull anyway, might as well see what Lawson can do

[–] BURN 4 points 1 year ago

He's looking terrible and has been all year. I started off thinking he'd get the whole year, but at this point it makes no sense to keep him in that car.

[–] lhx 2 points 1 year ago

I’m wondering if Formula E has some novel driving style that doesn’t translate to F1. Like maybe the regen braking is much stronger or maybe the diffs don’t cause rotation the same way. He always seems off on his braking this season. Which is funny because he looked fairly good in those various substitute races he got to participate in.

Perez missing Q3 for his fourth race in a row with what’s easily the fastest car on the grid is painful to watch.

He has seemed like a steady hand to back Max up who could be great on his best days, but where is this atrocious form coming from?

[–] BURN 3 points 1 year ago

Overdriving to compensate for being slower than max

I think it's a mental thing. He's a great driver on a good day, and has the race pace often to back that up. But when Max runs away with it Checo pushes himself harder

[–] melonpunk 6 points 1 year ago (4 children)

It's so hard to get excited for a lap here as I'm just waiting for it to be deleted. These track limits are not making this fun. Cutting corners I can accept, but outside track limits in this case feel too much.

[–] breakerfall 2 points 1 year ago

Good point... on the outside, the track construction should make it disadvantageous enough to stay on the tarmac.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Unpopular opinion: FIA tried to solve this when they decided not to monitorize track limits in Bahrain 2021. But they received a lot of backslash, both from fans and from a certain team. So FIA decided instead to go for a more strict approach, and as a result, that certain team has a driver on P15. Karma.

[–] lhx 1 points 1 year ago

It should probably just be at least 2 wheels on the red and white curb for the last two corner exits.

[–] BURN 6 points 1 year ago

Max not enjoying the track limits

Looks like the iRacing ones are accurate

[–] BURN 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Bottas pointing the wrong way with a car that won't go into neutral

That was quick

[–] zav 4 points 1 year ago

With a car that fast, there really is no reason for Perez to push the car to the limits, especially in Q2

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Eliminated in Q2: RUS OCO PIA BOT PER

Pérez outside Q3 for the 4th time in a row, this time due to track limits

[–] wason 1 points 1 year ago

Why did RUS get out? Track limits?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Bottas spins in turn one

[–] Aurix 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
[–] overtinker 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I just tuned in and it seems like they weren't sure whether or not he can get it out of the grass himself. They might just be extra cautious with flags now given how bad they were with safety measures so far this season

[–] iTipTurtles 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah looks like they were just making sure incase he was stuck fully

[–] BURN 1 points 1 year ago

Looked like BOT was stranded after a spin in T1, was looking like a mechanical problem. He got it restarted just after the RF was waved

[–] wason 2 points 1 year ago

Track limits are going to determine who wins now?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Eliminated in Q1: TSU ZHO SAR MAG DEV

Doesn't look like kbin.social is federating well with lemmy.world. this thread is empty when viewed from kbin

I see other posts here. Maybe it finally updated? Or are your language settings incorrect?

[–] wes 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Took such a long time to take Verstappen’s laptime away due to track limits.

[–] BURN 1 points 1 year ago

Bets on someone getting a Q1 lap deleted post session?

[–] wes 1 points 1 year ago

Perez wow…

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well, that was a long wait for the inevitable Max pole position. Even when trying to be conservative with the T9 track limits, he was still clear ahead of Charles that was pushing extra hard there. Speaking of those track limits, my impression is that the Red Bull Ring kerbs were designed with the track limits in mind that if you're on the red/white you're still in, and not specifically the white line. Oh well, they're the best drivers in the world, they can figure it out. Not like me fucking around in Assetto Corsa, 4 seconds off the pace.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Albon and Hamilton with the same lap time

[–] SquatchPodiatrist 1 points 1 year ago

Coulthard: “i don’t see the white line moving around.”

I have a hard time excusing track limits. I know some folks hate the frequency at this track, but IMO there’s no excuse for not keeping it in the lines at this level of Motorsport. Other tracks are much less forgiving for track limits which removes the need to delete times - with an easy runoff here, i have no issues with the times being deleted for running outside the lines.

[–] gingersluck 1 points 1 year ago

They need to redo the last turn this is annoying

[–] breakerfall 1 points 1 year ago

Anyone else notice the Minnesota Wild (hockey) hat in the stands?
