What did the sixers do wrong in how they handled his free agency?

I'm wondering the same thing. They got him to a team he wanted to be in and paired him up with his best teammate ever (excluding Durant in his early years).

I imagine its that he took a paycut last year and assumed it would be paid back in a deal this offseason. Morey balked at a max deal for Harden and he took it personally.
