Boo on the wolf center! Every so often someone does a fundraiser for the wolf center that I'm pretty sure is the same one that contributed to the mistreatment of Baxter, and everything I'd heard before this was that they were good, but if they're this nasty and unwilling to transfer an animal they're clearly unable to properly care for I question the rest of their rescue efforts as well. I won't be donating to them in the future.
Bats
Bats are cool
Bats are the only true flying mammals. There are over 1,400 species of bats, and they can be found on nearly every part of the planet. Not only are they cute, they are also important...
Studying how bats use echolocation has helped scientists develop navigational aids for the blind. Without bats’ pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control we wouldn’t have bananas, avocados, mangoes, agave, or cacao… that’s right, bats bring us tequila and chocolate!

Celebrate bats with us!
Our community's mascot is Baxter. Baxter is an Egyptian fruit bat that was cruelly kept alone and confined to a small cage for 12 years before being rescued by a bat sanctuary. You can read the full story by clicking on his name.

It was upsetting to read that part. You'd think fellow animal lovers would understand.
You'd be surprised at how many rescues are in it for the money only. It's a big problem in the equine and livestock rescue world.
What a wholesome and brilliant community you have here (stumbled in here via All).
Baxter is a perfect mascot and kudos for supporting such a lovely sanctuary. I’ve learned a lot about bats this evening thanks to this community and I’ve subscribed to keep on learning!
Welcome, it's awesome to have you here!
Hi, I've only just found this community...I just want to say you're doing amazing work rescuing Baxter....I fucking detest people who get animals and don't look after them properly, or exploit them
I'm glad Baxter is out of solitary confinement, and mixing with his new pals and his lady friends
Thank you! I’m also very happy he gets to live a full life now.
I love him
I'll openly admit I cried reading his story. How he trembled in front of other bats before accepting them as his companions 😥
Yes, I’m really glad he eventually found his instincts and got accepted into the group. Such a cutie.
This is where grown man's cry.
So I first saw this picture and thought Baxter had the same face as my chihuahua. Then I read his story and I cried and found it to be similar. My dog was a bit neglected by previous owners and he is a senior chihuahua. After this experience I can now say. Chihuahuas are ground bats.
Or maybe bats are sky chihuahuas…
