I don't know which makes me lose more respect for the NHL: the fact that they made this policy in the first place or that they spinelessly rolled it back as soon as someone defied it.
Apparently, they were already planning to roll it back before Dermott used the tape. I know how unlikely that sounds but I heard Scotia Bank didn't like the decision and put pressure on the league. I can easily believe the NHL caved to pressure from big money.
Heres the statement, to save you the time:
