How many of you watched Citizen Con? Any first impressions you wanna share?

Personally while I think all the tech presentations were nice I'm pretty much stuck in "I'll believe it when I can play it on live servers" mode.
Most of this stuff will take months (if not years again) to release so it's kind of hard to actually get hyped about it.

Some random notes about the stream:

  • engine trailer was nice, not much to write about it since tech showcases were always good
  • graphical updates were cool though the only thing I'm looking for are parts that will improve performance (I'm playing with an ancient CPU)
  • really like the realistic audio mode, that's exactly what I was hoping for
  • server meshing looks promising, let's hope live implementation goes well (as well as it can anyway)
  • destruction system will make combat way more dynamic and frantic. I'm curious how well this will work in actual gameplay.
  • resource management looks fun, probably won't see much of it since I prefer smaller ships but it should be a good addition that'll make multicrew ships less of a "best choice" (especially for solo players)
  • ship part was whatever. I mean, presentation itself was good, I just don't particularly care about ships.
  • I'm a bit mixed on the UI. Usability upgrades are good but I still hate the hologram style used for everything. Star map looked a little clunky but that might've been due to Bone stressing behind controls.

Pretty good start overall. All the demos were neat and showed a lot of long awaited improvements so kudos for that. I'm curious about what awaits us tomorrow.

I definitely want that 'realistic audio'

Server meshing proof of concept is a huge hurdle they at least demonstrated they can do it on small scale.

Totally on board with those who were not impressed. Expectations need to be tempered with everything CIG.

As an engineer working with power distribution, I actually liked the little FTL like system they are going with. I have feeling highly experienced engineering players will be able to recover highly damaged systems that normally are behind repair, this making them good for salvage teams too.

Overall I thought it went well, but for me the server meshing demo was the most impressive. Really gave me hope again that they might actually be able to pull this off.

The announcement of the new Preview channel was also a bit of a pleasant surprise. Looks like at least some backers will get to test out Pyro before the end of the year.

I've only watched the star engine panel so far but wow, seeing a live demo of server meshing is really a watershed moment for the game. Like you said the real test will be seeing it in the new preview channel but it was the biggest jaw dropping moment for me so far.

Will be checking out the rest of the day 1 panels soon.

This is kind of my MO since a couple of years. I am stoked about the changes and looking back I can see some of the stuff being talked about in the past slowly coming into the alpha but I will not get hyped about until I see it on PTU.

I love the engine optimisation and the realistic audio mode and to anything else I keep a healthy distance.

I dig the waves and the ground fog.

Realistic sounds was something I have hoped they'd get around to doing. Maybe they didn't demonstrate it, but I want shots causing hull damage to ring out loud and clear inside the cockpit.

The server meshing demo was really good. I finally understood how they do it. I have been pondering how they'd do it.

My first reaction from the destructible environments was "is this going to push forward the release by another five years?", but then again this tech is not critical for release and they can also finish it after SC releases.
