I have 1 notification, but my inbox is empty. How does blocking work? Could it be causing this? (lemmy.ml)

When I have 2 notifications in the inbox it says I have 3 and so on. Is it possible someone blocked me and therefore I cannot see a message from them? How does blocking work? Do I see messages of people who blocked me?

Can you see bot accounts? You might have a bot message for some reason that isn't showing.

I have seeing them disabled in my settings. Thanks for the info. I'll check the next time.
