On the steam deck go to Settings > Downloads > Enable Automatic Updates. That should download the updates as soon as they are pushed onto Steam
Steam Deck
A place to discuss and support all things Steam Deck.
Replacement for r/steamdeck_linux.
As Lemmy doesn't have flairs yet, you can use these prefixes to indicate what type of post you have made, eg:
[Flair] My post title
The following is a list of suggested flairs:
[Discussion] - General discussion.
[Help] - A request for help or support.
[News] - News about the deck.
[PSA] - Sharing important information.
[Game] - News / info about a game on the deck.
[Update] - An update to a previous post.
[Meta] - Discussion about this community.
Some more Steam Deck specific flairs:
[Boot Screen] - Custom boot screens/videos.
[Selling] - If you are selling your deck.
These are not enforced, but they are encouraged.
Rules:
- Follow the rules of Sopuli
- Posts must be related to the Steam Deck in an obvious way.
- No piracy, there are other communities for that.
- Discussion of emulators are allowed, but no discussion on how to illegally acquire ROMs.
- This is a place of civil discussion, no trolling.
- Have fun.
While this works, it can be pretty detrimental to game performance to be updating in the background.
You can also just enable background downloads for specific low performance games, and play those while you wait on downloads.
Leave the deck running, steam link into it from your phone when you leave work and start any pending updates.
Is it possible to leave the thing powered on, and trigger the updates on a schedule, or remotely?
Im afraid I don't have a solution, but I share your pain friend. Sometimes I can only squeeze in an hour of gaming, fire it and argh update time.. Maybe tomorrow 😞
You should be able to enable download while a game is running
If it's shaders, you could potentially turn off downloading shaders in desktop mode. I don't actually know if things are a Stutter mess anymore after many changes in 3.5 if you do that. (That async stuff)
