The critically endangered Mountain Chicken
Not a chicken.
American Cardinal - birds are not religious
Great tit is a bit misleading.
Poor management of expectations, one could say.
I've been lead astray by a booby as well.
Great Horned Owl - Has no horns, just a bad hair cut. Most consider them mediocre at best.
These are pretty funny - thanks for sharing!
You're mod now!
Thank you!
I vehemently oppose the new redditesque rule of "Begin posts with “TIL” ". One of the things I disliked about reddit is each sub having different rules, which also squashes Xposting ability, and Xposting is more common/important on the Lemmyverse since there are probably already 10 other TIL subs.
I reverted that rule away, but we can discuss it if you'd like 🙂
Good point. It was nice to identify the posts right away when scrolling through, but the crossposting argument is valid.
There are quite a few posts already on [email protected] using this convention though. Given the larger use base in that instance, I'd be concerned about a majority tending with convention.
I'd suggest starting a new post here and gathering some feedback. I'm game to break traditional values if that's where we want to go.
If people want to put TIL in the title they can still do that 😛
Whaat, what's a mountain goat then? A sheep, a gazelle? Gib Tell.
IIRC they're more closely related to Takins which look like a cross between a goat and a water buffalo despite being neither one.
The mayfly is also quite likely to fly so its name is a bit of an understatement.
