Just out of curiosity, what's the advantage to them having their account on the same Instance as the community?

[–] ignotum 26 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Less likely to accidentally loose access due to defederation? 🤷‍♂️

[–] Candelestine 10 points 9 months ago

Yea that makes sense.

there are bugs on moderating communities on other instances. like mode actions do not propagate to federated instances if done from a different instance.

but don't take my word for it, i don't have a source.

I've experienced issues like reports arrive late for external moderators, and post actions only work, and not comment and user actions. https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3781

I’ll take one for the team, bang through some privileges and I’ll start moderating the shit out of this community.

No pooping, beans and stroganoff for everyone!

No poop for you!

Man, what a poop nazi.

Its a good idea to have communities moderated by local users, in case there are any issues with federation or reports federating.

I posted a bunch in this community before it surged in June / July. I still comment moderately here, and read comment threads moderately.

Overall I'm not super active. I would just watch my regular feed and comment threads like I currently do, and if I see something uncivil, I'll intervene. So if I am chosen, it would be ideal to have other mods as well, as I may not be enough on my own.

Done, thanks!

I've been posting a bunch and could help out if you need it.

  1. I'm on lemmy.ml
  2. I have posted here several times, some posts reaching 500+ upvotes
  3. Can enforce rules
[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I'll do it as long as I can post more Possum memes

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

I’m slowly migrating to the Fediverse. Just created pixel fed account.

Posted a meme.

Two questions:

When I view my post in my account I see a link to image instead of image.

And not sure how to sort memes by new.

And to the topic of this thread… I would like to volunteer but I’m still finding me way. When I’m more confident I shall volunteer.

just a question: is moderating any different in lemmy than reddit? like can a moderator power trip here?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Mod actions are of the shadow type, as in users don't get to know if they're blocked/hidden/etc unless they have a hunch and go check the modlog.

Modlog is more transparent but the former reason makes power tripping / shaping a community to the whims of a mod easy.

I don't know if there're any reporting tools to inform instance admins if a mod is going rogue

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

to add to the other comment, I think mods can still power trip here. Though I think there's one thing protecting from that: the instance admins can reassign the mods. And though it is technically the same as reddit, in reality your instance admins are way more responsive that Reddit admins.
