Hmmmm. But im using an app called lemmy though? Is that not the official app?
Café
Welcome to our virtual third place, The Café.
Come on in and make a new human connection over a cup of coffee (or Teh Tarik). This is a casual community, do whatever you want, share your oyen pics, your frustrations, and even organize a weekend picnic with the community. The world is your oyster.
Rules are simple, be kind and civil with each other. As with any other café, rude patrons will be kicked out.
What happened is that you probably installed the PWA (progressive web app) which is basically a container for the browser window that's specifically pointed to your Lemmy instance. You can check your actual browser app and see the history, all your Lemmy activities will be there also :)
These Europeans (i noticed pre-2022 Fedi are dominated by them) damn love these PWAs, so practically every Fedi instance you sign up will have a little prompt to ask if you want to install.
Hmm, there's no official app for lemmy though, the only app available right now without sideload is jerboa for android, and upcoming Mlem for ios.
There’s a whole bunch of apps that are being developed for Lemmy/Kbin. I’ve been trying out a few, all are still very much work in progress, Mlem is nice but barely usable yet. Liftoff/Limbo is already very usable on iOS. I’m most excited for Artemis for now.
Edit: here’s a better list: https://lemmy.world/post/465785
I see, Connect and Summit is new to me(because it's new lol), and most other i known of is either still in development or is currently on beta. On the ios side the one i heard a lot of buzz are Thunder Mlem and Memmy, but all still in beta iirc. So jerboa is the current stable one that i tried.
Yeah, I mostly just use my web browser for now, but in a few months the third-party app scene for Lemmy should be very vibrant. I’m a Mastodon user as well and we’re spoilt with choices over there with great apps like Ivory, Mona, and Ice Cubes alongside the official app.
i would be happier with a RES-like extension for lemmy. I like being able to open/close posts without clicking on it.
edit: nvm, I'm dumb, looks like that feature is already there by default.
I know the typical question about these new Lemmy clients is if this project with be open source or not?
