I honestly think the whole thing will work out quite nice now that Lemmy and Kbin users can interact with each other.

All I care about is that Sync for Lemmy is coming along with us.

Some things really are right with the world...

The world had to burn to rise up from the ashes

Getting better and better by the minute!

[–] marcos 12 points 1 year ago

At this point, if it fails for some reason it will be because of too many people out of control.

I joined about a week ago, and subscribed to everything so I would see any content at all. Things were that way for a short while, then I didn't come for 2 days, came back yesterday and now I'm unsubscribing things so I don't get overwhelmed.

Lemmy just happened.

*just upvotes every post* I’m doing my part too!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Upvote a lot, but try to keep it to the top half of quality. We do want the quality to go up with the number of posts instead of just pure numbers.

Now, kbin.social, there's a UI you can set your watch to!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Take that Unitas!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

If there's anything that keeps me coming back to a platform, it's Simpsons shitposts

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (3 children)

How did you post from kbin.social to lemmy.ml?!?

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The magic of the verse baybee

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So helpful! I've found it but the image uploader doesn't seem to work on my browser

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Click choose file, then browse to the file, once it is selected and you see the filename next to the choose file box you can hit the "add new photo" to post it. The upload button doesn't seem to do anything for me either atm.

New to this, but I think unless there's some blocking done it is indeed possible to post and comment on communities of different instances.

And that's the beauty of this federation thing.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I feel the same way about https://lemmy.ml/c/buildapcsales I'm doing my damnedest to keep posting so this thing takes off!

[–] MiddleWeigh 8 points 1 year ago

Yea Iike this WHOLE thing. I can't describe it without getting sort of emotional and wordy. It feels like I'm surrounded by my peers. I actually like being here.

I mean, what other reddit clones are there?

[–] OtakuAltair 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Not any that aren't open source afaik

If those got popular, they could just end up facing the same issue as reddit anyway...

Even without that though, the ux soon being better than reddit with Sync for Lemmy and Memmy coming out is more than enough to put this above all the others, including reddit, imo

[–] Cruxifux 1 points 1 year ago

I hope you’re right. Reddit can suck on my twitchy little dick.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

There's Tildes but they're not federated and have a pretty snobby admin. Deimos was supposed to be handing down good moderator tools like two years ago but I don't know if that ever happened because I gave up on it.

He still has pretty exclusive control of the site, like only he and other admins (are there other admins?) can make new communities/subtildes(?) and only based on admins perceived demand.

[–] MiddleWeigh 2 points 1 year ago

Ya that sounds awful

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not a fan either, but many are so it's worth sharing.

In the warmth of last autumn’s embrace, my Reddit account locked in its place.“I’ve argued too much,” I sighed, wearied by battles of digital pride. My wife, her patience thinned, her annoyance kindled like leaves in the wind.In my ear, a constant lament, “Finish your comment, our time’s better spent.”

An unbound screen, my tethered desire, the silence it gave, quenched my heart’s fire.Lurking in shadows, seeking no fame, I found happiness in not playing the game.Less was the time on my phone, more was the peace in our home.

Yet a beacon called, by the name of Lemmy, a new realm in which to spend my penny.Arguing, scarce; engagements, light; but shadows cast in my wife’s sight. My son on his throne, a royal training, my focus faltered, my duty waning.

From her eyes, shifty looks, I received, as if my carelessness, she grieved. My attention lured by the screen’s allure, family moments passing, unsure.A reminder, harsh yet kind, about what’s truly behind the grind.

To balance love, and pixel’s call, a task set out for us all.So I ponder on this digital dance, giving life’s moments more than a glance. In the search for likes and upvotes won, let’s not forget the real-world fun.

================================

This poem was created by gpt 4 based on this true story:

My reddit account got soft locked last fall, i never fixed it because i was spending too much time arguing and my wife was getting annoyed waiting because “i gotta finish this comment” All was fine after, i spend less time on my phone. And just felt a little happier just lurking. Now on Lemmy I haven’t had to really argue with anyone yet, but i have seen some shifty looks from my wife as i was paying more attention to my phone than my son during potty training.

I sit here staring at the people sprawling out.

Webs of diamond thought, making me think.
