If Sync could integrate searching lemmyverse.net, or a similar source, when searching for communities, I think it would really smooth out the user experience, especially for newbies. If I could set that as my default community search in the app I 100% would.

Agreed.. I still have trouble finding communities within the app even though they clearly show up on lemmyverse.

Current search, even when set to All, still relies on your instance's connection to other instances. So communities only show up in app if you're instance is aware of the other instances. If Lemmy.world hasn't federated with random.com you can't see random.com's communities. That's the value of places like lemmyverse.com as they are going out of their way to connect with and index as many instances as possible.
