Technology-assisted hunter-gatherer societies are the true utopia. Live with nature, return to monke, have a space station full of robots and technos orbiting up above to monitor for asteroids and provide medical assistance and vaccinations when need be. Name a better future.

I wouldn't call having to hunt and gather utopian. Maybe return to nature in some sense, sure, but not hunting and gathering en masse.

Maybe not for everyone, but the human animal evolved to live and thrive in such an environment. Any society designed to maximize human happiness will have to contend with that fact.

With fewer people in an area it could be pretty good.

Like a nature reserve? It does have a certain appeal, but doesn't it lack, i dunno, dignity?

Edit: actually it sounds kind of like the andaman islands?

Who says I have dignity left to lack? For real though, I feel like there's something noble about living off the land as a part of nature. Maybe not pre-agricultural, but pre-metallurgical would be a rewarding, if hard, life.

I've pretty much done that. It was hard but rewarding. I would absolutely do it again given the opportunity.

Edit: i don't know why but either lemmy or my client keeps posting my replies to the wrong comment.
