I've always been interested in speedrunning as an avid collector of retro consoles (never enjoyed emulation much) and wanted to try to get into submitting times and sharing runs, but I'm not sure where to start tech wise. Is there a solid capture card out there that people are using for component-based consoles (i.e. Sega Saturn, Nintendo GameCube, etc.)? Would I need anything else?

I don't have first hand experience but I do own multiple capture cards. I think you'd just need to get an adapter from whatever the console has to HDMI and then plug it up as normal.

I thought that may the case, I do have an upscaler for the Sega Saturn...I'll have to play around with that. Is the Elgato still the best way to go?

oof Idk. To be honest I've had more problems with my el gato than my cheapo china cards.

I have the HD60+, and I know tons of people use it without issue but I'd urge you to do a little research into other options before you decide.

El Gato does have a newer card which supports VRR, maybe that one is more reliable but I can't with a clear conscious recommend it to you based on my experience and its cost
