I do love a good jape from time to time, but colonization is when you show up and expel/enslave/imprison the people who are already there, which is decidedly not how the spread of people from Africa worked

I think the Neanderthals would disagree

It's going to be real interesting once we finally colonize Mars...

I imagine it will get like the expanse

That's literally not what colonization means. I also promise that most human history is bloody even if you don't know about it. Humans spread out from Africa across the world. My slightly related to me ancestors conquered subjugated and killed their slightly related ancestors. We're all one race.

Well actually, north African did control Spain for about 700 years.

The joke is that we all come from Africa so they colonized the whole Earth, no ?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I do believe that's the context, yes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Well , my country was colonized and that word have a very strict definition in my mind.

Not really despite having been invaded from north africa the spanish caliphate gained its independence after the fall of the Oumayads . then divided into smaller independent Emirates until the Spanish conquest.

Brazil was also independent after Portuguese royalty moved in and declared it a kingdom. It's still considered colony.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

By your logic even the USA is still a british colony.

[–] Phrodo_00 2 points 1 year ago

I meant it was still considered a colony at the time, when it had non-brazilian rulers but was practically independent from Portugal. I hope you know Brazil hasn't been a colony for around 200 years.

You're probably right.

Akchually, the map entire world was colonized by people from Africa. Since the map shows the entire world (even New Zealand), it is accurate.
