Sounds exactly like something that happens to the Angels. Or Mariners or Mets.

Then the idiot owner - "the king of highway billboards" I'm told - doubled down on having two superstars surrounded by replacement-level players, which will never get the team anywhere important but it does fill a few seats on a day-to-day basis. Well... both superstars are out of the picture. Now what do you do?

Trout may never get a World Series ring, but at least the weather's nice in his home stadium. And LA has a bunch of daily direct flights to Tokyo for Ohtani and from Tokyo - maybe probably also Osaka - for his fans, with no layover hassles to deal with. Quality of life for both, in details unrelated to the ballfield.
