I was so sad to hear about this... I started watching The Funkster when I was a teenager in the mid 90s when we would get tapes of his crazy death matches from Japan and see him on ECW before he finally turned up in WWF in the Attitude Era. He really was an amazing performer, and from what I could tell from his interviews a pretty nice guy all around

I was lucky enough to see him live in a small house show for MLW back in the mid 00s. It was a PPV called War Games (I think) and it was Funk vs Steve Corino. Fantastic match. It was a barbed wire death match.
