This is going to be an incredibly important series. We're a full game out of a playoff spot, and the Mariners are on a crazy run right now. We're coming up on a so-called easy part of our schedule, but we have to stay close to the M's and the Astros in the wildcard or it's going to be tough to regain that lost ground.

Agreed. And I'm okay if they walk Mountcastle every at bat. Even with bases loaded.

It's tough though because the Os are stacked, unlike the Guardians who only have 1 or 2 real threats in their lineup

Goddamn Romano that was beautiful! Great game. See you all tomorrow.

Close, entertaining, stressful at times game

I feel bad for Baumann top 10th. Everyone has been on edge playing with so much adrenaline and he's the reason the O's are down 3 right now.

This is an awesome game.. I hope Jordan Romano can lock this down bottom 10.

He's got a 3-run lead at the moment! 😎 Also, I love that we have another Jordan in the tank :P

Varsho padding his stats with 1 HR, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 RBI, and at least a half dozen teammate hugs in the dugout on that play :P

It's so good to see Bo back in the order! Rodriguez has quite a bit of movement on that heater. Was that a good swing decision from Vladdy? I don't know enough, but it's frustrating to get DPed on the first pitch (a borderline one) from one of your stars

It was a hanging slider, but it was a couple inches inside for a probable ball. Probably should have left it alone.

When I played little league, one of the most popular spectator cheers was "good eye!" when one of our hitters took a ball at the plate. I'm not one to be too disrespectful (anymore, lol; younger days are another story), but I'd love to sit behind home plate and yell "good eye, blue!" when the ump calls a borderline pitch in our favour :P

Wowee great fielding that inning. I think that was Bo's best play of the season so far

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

It was like a hail Mary pass to Vlad and it got to him.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Wow, idk if I've ever seen someone reach on a 3rd strike passed ball in the MLB. I love baseball :D

We're winning, but this lead does not feel the least bit safe against the Os.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Agreed. That friggin' hit Yimi gave up didn't help Yusei's ERA 😀. Bigger picture, if Kikuchi has such a short leash 3rd time through the order (for whatever reason), that factors into his suitability as a starter in a 3-game playoff series

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

And there goes the lead. 4 inning game now. Reset and score more runs!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have no idea what our rotation order is these days. I was guessing either BerrΓos or Bassitt was pitching tonight. I'm excited to see Yusei! I think Yusei would probably start in a 3-game series against the Os given how many lefties they have. Of their 8 best hitters (OPS+ of ~115 or better), 3 are lefties and 3 are switch hitters (although I don't know if they prefer one way or another: Rutschman, Santander, Hicks). I think Rutschman is primarily right, that's how he started in the home-run derby anyway

Os OPS vs. Lefty pitching: .769

Os OPS vs Righty pitching: .733

So this might actually be the worst matchup of the series, even considering how well Kikuchi has been doing.

I love the data-driven argument 😎! I'm not swayed though lol :P. If I guessed the series' pitchers right here I'll predict that Yusei has the lowest ERA of Berríos and Bassitt. I'll guess Berríos has next best

πŸ˜‚ Looks like it's Gaus tomorrow and Berrios on Thursday - any updated predictions? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah, but I'm going down with the ship, even after all the hard contact and 1 run on the Kooch πŸ˜‚: Kikuchi > Gausman > BerrΓos

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think we can all agree we have the pitching regardless who we throw out there. It's our lineup that needs to produce in a series like this. Just have to score more than they do. Easy right? So far so good!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

who we throw out there

Good pun! Yeah, our lineup sure needs to show up. I'm like SpongeBob in your gif during the Os 1-5 at the plate

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Ok we'll revisit this after Thursday's game πŸ˜‚

Welcome folks, to a battle of the Eastern Birds! The Blue Birds will feel inspired going forward in their Wild Card chase if they manage to take 2 games from those pesky B-O Birds in this series. Here's hoping!

Not feeling too hopeful for this series, the Jays have really dropped the ball against division opponents all season.
