I want to upload some short videos to post online but I don’t want them on YouTube. Any free video host that is either open source or at least not big corp owned?

Peertube is Federation.

Vimeo and Dailymotion are at least not Google.

Peertube sounds exactly like what you're looking for. Open source, federated, decentralized, and free.

Well, there are two options:

  • PeerTube
  • a direct link to the webpage where you host the file

This is correct

PeerTube is federated and not owned by Google or any big corporation

Streamable.com is kind of like imgur for video hosting, but it is ad supported and your video gets deleted in 90 days (on the free option).

The answer is very often selfhosting.

I was totally oblivious to this concept 2 years ago. I now have multiple servers running a bunch of FOSS software and I'm totally google free.

My solution to upload videos I want to share is picoshare. Dead simple and efficient.

I learnt everything online and if I could make it, so do you :)

Odysee is an option, though they do have a crypto to "tip" people.

Not only is Odysee based on crypto BS, but it caters to conspiracy nuts, neo-Nazis, and other extreme-right hate groups. No thanks.
