Hello fellow Far Side fans!

About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.

The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). Its surrealistic humor is often based on uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, (often twisted) references to proverbs, or the search for meaning in life… Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Far_Side

Hope you enjoy and feel free to contribute to the community with art, cool stuff about the author, tattoos, toys and anything else, as long it’s The Far Side!

I do not understand any of the comics from thefarside. Am I too young or just out of touch?

In this panel, the total absurdity of the closet full of live ducks fails to dent the world-weary cynicism of the veteran homicide detective.

I think the axe factors in here too. I would guess those are farmed ducks and the axe is what the farmer used to dispatch them. So the ducks killed him to save themselves (or as vengeance. Or both.)

They're generally absurdist, non sequitur, tongue in cheek, or a 180 perspective flip, if that helps

It is bizarre. I subbed this community just so I could continue to be confused.

You just need to stop trying to understand and accept.

that's kind of what it is. The opposite side, the far side of the moon ;)

I thought the lightbulb was a duck that had hung himself and was facing us...

I loved the far side when I was a kid, but seeing these again now and I don’t remember them being this absurdist. I mean, I still love it though

I think kids are much more open to absurdity than adults are.

We need to talk about the ducks.

Are they driving you quackers?

Looks like someone had too many ducks to give.
