We need to treat women who do this the same way we treat men who do this.
Well, she faces 43 years, I'm not sure how the sentence is divvied up between the charges, but it seems like that might happen here. That being said, if she were a pretty, white woman, the comments would probably say things like "nice!" or "where were these teachers when I grew up?"
Why are these women not called rapists?!
There's a fundamental change that needs to take place for women who commit sex crimes.
They get let off, the victims are not fully believed or supported in the same way a woman would be, and the media reports it almost like "what a lucky kid" rather than a person in a position of authority taking advantage of a child. If the genders were swapped there would be an angry mob outside.
The media often phrases things this way, regardless of gender.

I can find many, many examples of men and rape in the title.
Can’t find any for women.
Also telling that half of those are police officers getting the privilege of the “nice” wording.
How about we turn this around a bit; what if we didn't round all sexual misconduct up to violent sexual assault?
Yes statutory sexual violations are a crime, yes having sex with someone who's too drunk to consent is a crime, but they aren't the same crime as violent sexual assault in the same way that manslaughter isn't premeditated murder.
The first thing that comes to mind is Brock Turner. He raped an unconscious woman behind a dumpster. To you does that fall under "violent rape" or "having sex with someone too drunk to consent"? In my view it's both. The violence is inherent in the act of being violated. People need to err on the side of consent or accept the risk of being called a rapist.

Ironically, I saw a pithy comment from a Redditor several years ago that pointed out the problem with calling him a "lucky kid" who likely wanted sex: An 8th grade boy probably would also greatly enjoy guns and high-powered sports cars. It's still bad news for adults to give him any of those things. Glad she's facing consequences.
Why do they have to sugarcoat rape? I wonder if the judge will tell her that she has been found guilty of having sex.
Because it's only rape if men do it.

You can't get consent from a minor. This was rape.

I usually connect rape with nonconsensual often violent sexual assault. But I guess could also be rape. Personally I would just call in sexual assault though, since I associate the word rape differently.
You should be a reporter, they have a hard time calling it rape, too.
I would call it rape when the person is charged guilty.
So it's just sexual assault until they are found guilty in court and then it's rape?
