I have the same problem. I assumed it's a bug or not implemented, yet.
Jerboa
Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.
Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

I mean i can switch it so that's something, but having it by default would be nice
Since that preference is set at a user level you could probably set it from a browser then jerboa will pick up on it. That assumes the bug is jerboa actually updating the setting but hopefully that'll work.
I actually do have it set on the browser level, but it's still defaulting break to local
The setting is in your profile settings in the app below of avatar picture setting.
Thanks! I prefer subscribed/hot, but works just the same. Can't believe I didn't think to look in the settings :D
hamburger button -> Settings* -> Yourusername settings* -> Scroll down a little, there are two drop down fields for the two options you're looking for, just before all the checkbox options
:)
(*: Wording not exact, since the app currently has no language option that I could find and inherits the system language)
Additionally, after saving your preferred settings, I found it necessary to close and relaunch Jerboa to see the change. Simply refreshing the home page doesn't apply it.
Yea all the sudden it started working, maybe it required a full force close. Nevertheless, thanks!
