I recently watched a Wyloch's Armory clip about using painter's tape as edge-cladding for corrugated cardboard tiles. Has anyone tried this? Does the tape take acrylic paint well? If I let segments of tape overlap at the corners, how thick will it look?

I don't have an answer, but the clip sounds interesting, would you happen to have a link? Is that a YouTube channel?

Yes, a Youtube channel. Wyloch builds dungeon tiles, terrain and scenery out of cardboard and hobby materials. I've been following his early vids because I think his are the best-looking tiles.
