This is a post to brainstorm some ideas about the game and what it could have been. I'll start by listing some old features that I really liked:

  • As I mentioned in my previous post, isometric screenshots. They just look good.
  • The old smelting system. It was only in indev version 0.31. You would smelt iron by using flint and steel to ignite a fire in which you would then drop the iron ore onto the fire, producing iron ingots. It was definitely faster and more "atmospheric" than the current way of smelting in my opinioni even though it was simpler.
  • The saturation of Alpha and below, it makes the simplest places look nice.
  • Indev world types.

What are your opinions and ideas?

Relatively dumb treasure that feel like a major status symbols like mossy stone types, chainmail and cacao beans handing out cookies while wearing brown dyed leather pants used to be a massive flex, now your a loser if you don’t have an elytra.

Also the naive luxury of the pre-phantom nights.

  • A community that cares about more than just PVP (which still exists but is tiny in comparison)

I don't think the community cares that much about PVP nowadays.

Late, but I was crushed when I found out a couple years ago, getting back into the game, that the og minecart booster system/bug had been patched out, and now they want me to use redstone rails like every 3 blocks (for uphill sections), and they feel much slower too, though that might just be my memory.

I'm sure there are other 'bugs' that should have been left in, or at least available with a toggle. Having one booster take me a massive distance was so cool, and now it's a chore.
