But anyway, can we just defederalise meta if that happen? Is that possible?
Sure, and I probably wouldn't stay on any fediverse site that federated with Meta. Hopefully Kbin joins this Alliance Against Evil asap.
@PositiveNoise absolutely, threadiverse protocols like kbin and Lemmy is a vector for exposure risk because they aggregate links. In kbin even untagged fedi posts go to the 'random' magazine on kbin.social
@Annoyed_Crabby oh absolutely possible, part of the pact linked above is having that as a next step. I'm working on building an aggregation of posts from today on my personal magazine just for ppl to get up to speed. Later will update.
Of course it was naive to think it would be so easy to find an oasis of our own. Institutional power wants to spread its influence wherever people flock to.
@geoffervescent a sign of our (still nascent!) success. The bright silver lining is, if you buy off the devs, we can always fork. If you buy off the mods, we can always move (and block)
@cendawanita The last thing anyone needs is that F*k Zuckerberg here in the fediverse. I just got here after leaving spez's imploding site - getting Zuck instead is a demon nightmare of harvesting data at a level that spez could not imagine. I'm too new here to know what P92 is but whoever is executing an NDA needs to have their access cut off or at least fenced in and then the project needs to be attacked like a biologic against a cancer growth.
@gentleman couldn't agree more. I don't think they'll do a massive hit on fediverse qua fediverse but the way they build shadow profiles even on non-fb users is a major redline for me
@cendawanita do you know where mastodon.world stands in this? I migrated off of mastodon.social seven months ago and I really hope I donβt have to move again
@Chimaera I'll try and find out and update, but i haven't heard anything. I do know mastodon.art defederated with universodon because they took the meeting and presented it positively. And stux the mod for mstdn.social defed .art in retaliation and fwiw the boosterist ppl, the ones who like fedi to just grow3x do have their own backchannel and feel positively about this. Ugh. Just untangling myself from FB because it's useless these days. I shouldn't be surprised they are trying to creep over to stay relevant.
@Tarlia I'm just sideeyeing the fedi mods inc the masto guy for even giving face to fb, as though past performance won't tell you what to expect!
