Okay, be honest everyone, is there really anything that is as powerful as plexamp's sonic analysis, and track radios? I'm using Navidrome, but it is not even remotely the same thing. (lemm.ee)

I'm happy that I have navidrome setup, and it even forced me to make sure all my tags were beautiful and setup how I like them, but it's undeniable that Plex had the upper hand on open sourced music projects.

I don't feel entirely okay with letting Plex have my data with no backup options, but at the same time it's discovery options and ease of use to find "moods radios" and "track radios" are undeniable creature comforts ported from modern streaming services.

If there isn't anything currently, then just let me know. I know the community is growing and with time some of these features may come to be, but since I can't find anything, I'm just curious if I just missed something great and can begin to fully ditch Plex for music.

For those not in the know: here's what I'm talking about.

And for the lazy that just want the gist: "Metadata for music is great and it can be fun to browse or play music based on genre, style, or mood. But maybe you have some obscure artists from Bandcamp or even your high school band in your collection. Those may well not have any real metadata available at all on MusicBrainz, All Music, etc. If there’s no metadata for the genre/style/mood, then that content gets left out of some of the fun.

Your Plex Media Server can perform a “sonic analysis” of your local music files to catalog detailed characteristics about the actual music itself. That data can then be used in a variety of ways, allowing you to see sonically similar artists/albums/tracks, play a Track Radio, or even suggest specific mixes for you, based on what you’ve already listened to.

It’s a powerful tool, allowing you to explore your music library in Plex like never before!"

Music brains is probably the best we have. I wonder if you can export playlist as a text files and use something like tunemusic.com to move it to Spotify and such

Musicbrainz isn't a music streaming server though? I've used it to tag everything with mood, and bpm, but I'm not aware of any selfhosted music server that utilizes it.

Sorry. I deleted the other three. I’m trying out an app that’s in beta and it’s bugged out.

I misunderstood your post, but I think Plex is the best we have for now. Plexamp is absolutely one of the best apps I’ve ever used period (not just music or self-hosted). It’s just an all around great experience.

I've been really impressed by plexamp since I started using it 2 years ago. Feels like they've been cracking out loads of great new features in that time, and sonic analysis is at the core of my favourite: Guest DJs. The app has really changed how I listen to my music for the better.

I understand wanting to move away from plex, especially for tv/film stuff, but plexamp really feels like a passion project by some of the devs. I'd love to hear if anyone has any alternatives, but nothing else I've looked into hits the mark.

Yeah, plexamp is honestly amazing. It just doesn't feel like the backend has the same amount of love for music. It's undeniable that plexamp trounces any competitor, unless you want a minimal basic listening experience.

Plexamp is one of the things keeping me locked into plex tbh, I don't think anything else self-hostable compares right now when it comes to the sheer amount and quality of music features it has.

As @[email protected] mentioned, it really does feel like a passion project

You can really feel the love in plexamp. I just wish the server side of things got the same amount of love. Either way, I'm so glad it exists. It's just hard to justify keeping Plex when I already got jellyfin set up for video.
