Title: installing battle net is a bit of chore, but other than that was very impressed with how smoothly this runs on steam deck. Combined with Steam Dock and instant console mode. Highly recommend.

I was impressed too! I’ve had LESS issues running it on my steam deck than I have on my PC! Could be luck or just something between low and high settings causing me more issues. Worth going through the effort of loading up Battle.net for. As a long time mouse and keyboard player controller feels good for Diablo.

Yeah I've been having a blast! Being able to lay on my couch and play is something I never thought I'd appreciate as much as I do lol.

I agree entirely, I played it as my main for a week while traveling, only hiccup was after hibernation and needing to kill the entire process to reconnect. Low res doesn't matter in handheld mode.

That is pretty awesome. I didn't realize you could run battle.net on Linux. Last time I looked into this though was right before D2:R came out and was trying to get it working on Pop!_OS. Can't remember much, but I do remember not really being able to get it to work.

Glad to see that things have progressed. I don't own a steam deck, but I'm definitely filing this away as something that is possible to do. However, I'm really enjoying D4 on my xbox. :)

I've only used bnet on desktop and it's really easy to install using Lutris. Overwatch 2, HotS and Diablo 4 all play well, while CoD does not. One time several Linux users, myself included, got caught in a ban wave for Overwatch. And while their support insisted that we were caught cheating and sanctioned correctly, a few days later they sent us an email with an apology and reinstated our accounts.

I've been meaning to try it. Was it as simple as any other battle.net game as far as getting it to run?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I didn’t have to do anything different from other Blizzard games.

[–] Elden_Potato 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, I installed b-net for Overwatch originally. So all I had to do was install the game and it worked first attempt.

It runs better on Manjaro than it does Windows. I tried it out on my Windows petition last night and it just maxes my 8GB of VRAM and causes stuttering all game. On Manjaro it hovers around 7.5 GB of VRAM and almost never stutters. I’m impressed.

Edit: partition

Installing them is unnecessary unless you set the textures to ultra quality which I doubt you would do on the Steam Deck.

I’ve played on my PC and on the deck. I can safely say I have put in more hours playing on the deck than I’ve done on the PC.

I do not have a deck personally (yet!) however since I do run Linux on my desktop I was very happy that running Diablo 4 on Linux was super easy to do.

I wasn't too concerned since all of the other Blizzard games run on Linux as well, as far as I know.

Have it running on my MacBook Pro with the new game porting toolkit, runs flawlessly, some minor stutter, but absolutely playable!

[–] Arcidias 2 points 1 year ago

Hey, is the game porting toolkit available for public use? And is it available for the M1?

[–] eljimo 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have it on my deck as well and it runs really nicely, 60fps constant on low or some slight framedrops on medium but never below 40, the only downside is if I press the power button to pause, it never reconnects for me when I resume, so I gotta close the whole game and reopen it.

Also, I found that by binding L1 and L2 to R3 and R4 (back buttons), then Right Joystick to output Left Joystick, I can play the game with just my right hand, freeing up my left hand for other activities... The right joystick is only really used for scrolling long item text and zooming in and out in map, which you can do using the touch pad anyway.

Interesting, did you install the hi-res textures as well? Was wondering about performance

[–] ireworks 2 points 1 year ago

I installed the high res textures, I'm not sure if the deck actually takes advantage of them at all or if I just wasted some storage space. But it still runs at a solid 40-60 frames!

[–] Elden_Potato 2 points 1 year ago

I did not. Have mostly been playing handheld which may not be as noticeable.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I've heard that actually, pretty amazing. I might have to pick one up at some point

[–] otter_bee 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

just makes me nervous I'll get banned, is there any official communication from blizz on this subject? even for other games of theirs.

[–] Elden_Potato 3 points 1 year ago

In terms of using steam deck? Don’t think they have said anything one way or the other. Can’t imagine they would care, steam deck is really just a PC dressed up to look like a console so essentially the same as playing on any other computer. Especially for Diablo 4, they want your money…..they want you browsing the shop and buying things, I don’t think they could care less if that was on a calculator so long as your credit card works lol

[–] mvmnts 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's just a computer, you will be fine, relax. There are tons of people playing Blizz games of all kinds on Steam Deck. Dive in!

[–] otter_bee 1 points 1 year ago

Yea totally, there are just some overly sensitive anti-cheats and my blizzard account has a lot of history.
