I was once stuck on a train near Donner pass for 6 or 8 hours. The train had a whole car that had been booked by a girlscout group, so I got to spend a chunk of that time listening to a few tweens debate what order to eat everyone in.

Sometimes I forget about how much of a weird history nerd I am until someone reminds me that "no...not everyone already knows about weird history shit off the top of their head."
The Donner Party was definitely common knowledge among kids in the 90s.
The South Park guys did a musical loosely based on that called Cannibal the Musical.
Cannibal the Musical was based on Alfred Packer, not the Donner Party. Much later and different circumstances.
I stand corrected. Now I will learn about Alfred Packer.
