I want to switch from Proton and am looking at Mailbox.org. (This is probably not exclusive to Mailbox.org.) Alias are limited with Mailbox.org, which I'm not a fan of. But extensions can be used as well. Although they don't seem as anonymous as aliases? Can someone give their perspective on this?

I've started switching to kSuite

https://www.infomaniak.com/en/ksuite

It's based in Switzerland, has a free tier and paid is dirt cheap

They're not. Lets say your name is Dave Smith and you join mailbox with the username/address [email protected]

If you wanted to join (I dunno) a mastodon instance but wanted to easily identify it and were also happy for the Admin to know your actual email you could use [email protected] - that's an extension.

But if you didn't want the Admin to know your email you could create an Alias in mailbox so for example [email protected] - as long as no one else was already using it of course.

So if your actual primary address includes your name, an extension will always reveal it, whereas an alias can hide it.

Hi, I'm using mailbox.org since several years, for two familly accounts and business.

They got temprorary anonymous e-Mails which will expire every n month or so, unless you navigate in the menu and extend the period every n month.

Mailbox.org is nice. My only complain is that every time I log in I end up in their portal rather than the email inbox. Is there any way to change this?

Actually you can modify this in the basic settings.

Damn, I'll need to have another look. Those settings can be a bit difficult to navigate

Would you mind telling me why? Just checking if there's something I don't know since my proton subscription is about to be renewed 😄

Many of the recent switches to other services are probably inspired by their CEO turning out to be a Trump support. After being called out several times, they doubled down and reaffirmed their alignment with some of Trump's recent decisions. I think the biggest problem with this is that a company based in Switzerland shouldn't openly show their interest in foreign politics - especially so when it's sympathising with a fascist (government) and via Proton's official Twitter account no less.

Plus, they dropped their Mastodon account after getting "bullied" off it by Fediverse users, which some people didn't like either.

I haven't switched myself either since I switched to Proton a couple months ago myself and don't want to deal with changing my address for numerous services all over again, but I'm not paying for their services right now, so I'm not in a hurry. Not sure if this is inconsequential, but that's how it is right now.

Personally I find Proton too expensive to me, and my threat model is okay with not having Proton-level encryption

Alright thanks for the info
