Trying to find a favourite Pratchett book is so difficult. I love all of the Commander Vimes and Moist Von Lipwig stories. And also Small Gods. And also Monstrous Regiment. Actually I give up, I love them all.
British Books
That may be the correct answer. I was thinking about it and The Colour of Magic stocks with me as it was the first one and blew me away at the time (there'd obviously been comedy fantasy before but nothing of such depth and breadth which told a great story and wasn't just a way to poke fun at Tolkien) but then each book brought something new and fresh to his fictional universe.
Couldn’t agree more. It is so difficult. But it would be a crime if I didn’t mention Wee Free Men.
I got to meet him once in the late 90s. I had randomly grabbed the first discworld PlayStation game from a blockbuster or similar store when I was very young. Fell in love with it, played the second one. I begged my parents to drive me like 4 hours I think to go to him doing a talk and signing. I got him to sign a copy of The Color of Magic. So I guess that's my favorite book of his. But I think Night Watch might be my favorite story, if that makes sense
Makes perfect sense. I attended book festivals and various need conventions but somehow never met him. A real shame.
That's a bummer. I didn't get to interact with him much. He encouraged me to never quit reading and then signed my book. I think I was like 10 or 11 at the time. His voice was so weirdly comforting cuz I had no idea what to expect and was a very anxious kid nervous about meeting him.

A set of stamps celebrating the 40th anniversary of Sir Terry Pratchett's first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, has been published.
The author, who lived in Wiltshire, wrote 41 books in the Discworld series, the last of which was released after his death in 2015.
The set of eight stamps will go on general sale on 10 August.
40 years ago? I bought it when it came out but I can't be that old can I? Checks passport... Bugger.
I think the best all around of the Discworld books is Guards! Guards!, but my personal favorite is Monstrous Regiment. And I have a special affection for Equal Rites - Eskarina was an awesome character.
Others that especially stood out to me - Mort, Feet of Clay, Wee Free Men, Small Gods, Thud!, The Last Hero and Night Watch.
I don't have a favorite book, but Rincewind is my favorite character. He's just so pragmatic, like a begrudging hero. I just finished rereading Sourcery and almost cried.
Favourite book for me has to be The Colour of Magic... and as for a character, I loved the background of Death and HOW HE TALKED... along with his side stories, like taking a holiday...
Oh, and I've not seen anyone mention Luggage... that was a great character too
My personal favourite is "Moving Pictures", and I rarely see it mentioned. Great characters and great satire.
I would say probably The Wee free Men is my favorite, but really most of his books are just damn great reads. Moist Von Lipwig was a great character too.. all so good..

The Long Earth is a fun read!
