All about dogs - dog breeds, dog training and behavior, news affecting dog owners or handlers, puppy pics, etc.

Rules (Will be refined later on).

  1. Don't be a dick. This should cover most things, just keep in mind that everyone started somewhere and try to be helpful rather than rude or judgmental.

  2. No personal attacks based on training style or tools.
Discussion of balanced training including proper use of aversives is allowed here.

  3. All breeds and mixes are welcome. You can criticize backyard breeding practices but don't pile on people because they own a specific breed or prefer purebreds or mixed breeds.

  4. Do not support backyard breeders or puppy mills. Please do not link to or suggest buying from high volume breeders or those with an obvious lack of standards and testing.

  5. Do not help or support fake service animals. Please do not encourage people to buy fake service dog vest or ESA letters to get around rental or other restrictions & do not give advice on how to misrepresent a dog as a service or support animal.

Back in 2019 I started hiking with my dog every morning before work. Early in 2020 I lost my job and hike became longer, then my daughter’s dog Mocha started to join us. Hike started well under a kilometer and in the last 6 years has evolved to a normal day being 8-9km.

On New Year’s Day Mocha got into a fight with another dog (one I found on hike and we adopted in 2022) and her leg was broken. Once she stopped taking pain meds she wanted to start coming again, so I bought a cart and rigged up a harness.

We now walk on the ditch road near where we hike. Today is the first day of hike with the cart that my wife is not with me to share the pulling. I am at 3.5km and ready to turn around.

Bonus, my dog surveying the surrounding area.

The other dog that broke Mocha’s leg has been rehomed with my adoptive son (a young trans man who was abandoned by his family) and his partner.

Wishing Mocha a speedy recovery!

She goes for her, hopefully, finally check up Monday. She gets an X-ray to ensure the break is healed. The bites are all but healed. Then comes the process of building her back up to 8km hikes. She may never make that again, she is already about 12. But we will sure try. I have a feeling the cart will be a fixture on hike for the foreseeable future so we can pull her should we need to.

I can tell how much you care for her, so I know she’ll get back to her best whether that’s 8 km again or a new best

She had her visit yesterday. The bone did not properly set, and has not fully healed. She will need orthopedic surgery to rectify the problem. So at least 2 more months of the cart.
