When I was just out of high school I was stuck in this cycle. I didn't have a basement to solve all my problems.

Thank goodness for that basement.

  • Needs social interaction

  • Catches a glimpse of you own reflection in the mirror

  • Maybe social interaction doesn't need me

i have an awesome hack for this thanks entirely to my gay identity: i sublimate the need for social interactions through sex at bars/clubs, bathhouses, & sex clubs. (i wish that the apps worked for me). this way; instead of protracted and exhausting low levels of forced social interactions; i have as many ultra short bursts of DEEPLY intense social interactions as i want and it's in environments where it's not only okay to walk away at the moment that the urge to do so hits; but it's expected that you do.

others who share this identity with me have named it "top privilege" and i wield it like a cudgel to beat back social isolation/loneliness and the fact that it's EXCELLENT cardio during marathon episodes does wonders for my depression; SIGNIFICANTLY more so than than any cardio at a gym. (it's also a natural enticement since my innate humanity forces me to seek it out; effectively forcing me to break periods of self isolation).

i used to believe that this was a toxic trait because it usually is for straight people, but every single therapist i've seen see it as a positive influence; but only so because these gay spaces exist for this purpose, amongst peers, and i hope it all manages to survive our descent into fascism.

I have the impression that ad hoc sex like cruising and the places you mentioned is mostly practiced by gay people. Do you think it's true and if so, why?

a overwhelming majority of sex positive places are straight. it's more prevalent with gay people, but straight people make up a vast majority of people who partake; it's more hidden away since it's based on "invite only" as opposed to "all are welcome" like gay people do it.
