I was looking at my partner's Facebook "feed" and it's just like imgur but with even more ads now. Like, totally overculture memes, hardly anything local or from friends.
I quit fb a long long long time ago, but I remember my feed being actually pretty good - like it was almost entirely updates and posts and shared by cool friends, and people I actually knew IRL.
Why wouldn't we talk about two of the most relevant people in the world right now?

Jk, but I do honestly see both your points. For me it's like a diet. You need to be careful you aren't just eating up obvious rage bait, but you should probably stay at least somewhat aware of global politics.
You don't really need to go out of your way to find American politics, though. It'll find you wherever you are.
