And oh god, there's so much stuff I hadn't noticed the first time around, and a few foreshadows that send shivers down my spine. It's truly an amazing show.

I just started this for the first time (it was on sale so I picked it up). Excited for it!

Really? Where did you buy it if you don't mind me asking?

Also, I think you'll really enjoy it, it's one of the greatest shows for a reason! Every minute was worth it for me.

Picked up the box set on the iTunes Store. I think it was only $30.

It's on HBO as well :)

What I find remarkable is how consistently good all the seasons are (with a slight dip in the final season, in my opinion).

I used argue with a friend about which is the best, and you could make a convincing argument for any of them, really.

I was always partial to the second season, personally.

The 2nd season is brilliant, but it's hard to appreciate it on the first watch because it seems to abandon so many of the characters they made you care about in the first. But on a re-watch, you really care about the dock crew. And after 3 or 4 re-watches, you almost feel bad for Ziggy.

Ziggy as a character almost requires a second time through. The first time, you're like "who is this guy and why is he so annoying". But once you see how it ends and how all of his posturing and braggadocio comes from the fact that he is essentially in control of nothing in his life, he turns into a tragic figure. When you know what's coming, the whole complexion of the scenes with the dockworkers changes and gives them a tinge of sadness that makes them all the richer.

I completely agree, but he is so annoying that it took me at least 3 tries to feel any sympathy for him. Now I appreciate him as a tragic character, and the actor is fantastic.

He plays a really similar character in Generation Kill too.

Yeah, I think this was my experience too. On my first rewatch it really hit me how good season 2 was, and from there my appreciation for it just grew.

And the ending is just hard to top in general.

"Business or pleasure, Sir?"

"Business. Always business."

For me the best season is the 4th. The school/kids stories are just heartbreaking and the kids are just a perfect cast. Such a perfect show, I'm currently rewatching it for the third time to show it to my girlfriend and I've never enjoyed so much crushing her soul

Scott Templeton in season 5 is one of the few characters that has almost zero redeeming qualities or even much of a backstory.. honestly one of the main reasons that season takes a dip for me. But still fantastic compared to every other show.

“If Snotboogie always stole the money, why'd you let him play?”

“Got to. It's America, man.”

This show perfectly does the job of getting you hooked in the first episode. Or even in the first few minutes.

It's such a wonderful analysis on the passive evil of bureaucracy.

[–] s0phia 1 points 1 year ago

It made me see everything with another set of eyes.

I tried to get into this show but it was so boring. I did like 2 3 first episodes on S1.

[–] maniajack 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah it takes a few episodes to click and see how rich and true to life the stories are. Until you start picking up on the characters and the pacing it's hard to get into. Not everyone's cup of tea but I have yet to find a show as engrossing as the wire.

[–] my_blackest_day 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What ep/ss that it start clicking to you? I want to know how long I have to wait

[–] maniajack 2 points 1 year ago

I think I did episode 1 like twice then maybe made it to ep 3 then a year later started over and was hooked

S1 gets better if you stick it out. Stringer Bell is a great character. I was underwhelmed by TW, stopped watching 3/4 through S2. It had been over-hyped for me which is a shame because its obviously a good show.
