Right to Repair

Whether it be electronics, automobiles or medical equipment, the manufacturers should not be able to horde “oem” parts, render your stuff useless if you repair it with aftermarket parts, or hide schematics of their products.

Lina khan showing us again that she's one of the few people in government willing to stand up to big business.

You will be missed after trump replaces you with some c.e.o. who got rich fixing cheese prices or something.

But... Think of the cheese profitzz??

This lawsuit will be dropped next week under Trumps new FTC chair. Instead the FTC will praise John Deere for this instead.

More shareholder value!

I am sure this is by design. The Democrats would never have prosecuted them whilst in office. By doing so now, they can let the Trump admin cancel it and that apportion blame.

This is not the sort of case you bring at the end of your term. You know, just like prosecuting the Orange-skinned insurrectionist

This isn't the Democrats, it's the FTC

Under Lina Khan's leadership they have been revitalised and started to act as an actual consumer advocacy and anti- monopoly organisation again. They have been prosecuting long-overdue cases since the start of her appointment.

[–] alexc 3 points 2 days ago

True, but didn’t the Democrats leave it a little late to revitalize the FTC? We need more people like Ms Khan in politics…

I agree they use this to campaign on and nothing else. Got take in that sweet corporate cash.

How are farmers still buying John Deere crap?! I understand farm equipment is a long term purchase, but I'd expect new sales to have tanked years ago. And farmers are any but ignorant on this point.

[–] The_v 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Deere has a cult following with some farmers.

Many farmers are also the definition of ignorant. They live in remote area with limited contact outside of their social group.

[–] shalafi 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But they're hardly ignorant of farming, and they talk among themselves. Do you think they don't have internet?! Hell, an AG class was where I finally under how the quadratic equation can be applied.

Lol, yes U.S. farmers can be highly ignorant of farming. The shit I have seen over the years. To be fair i have run into ignorant farmers all over the world. Most of the time it's due to available technology and information. However the Midwest and Prairie Provinces are something special, the term "willful ignorance" applies more frequently.

Also Deere in some regions also have a local monopoly with no competition close due the the before mentioned cult following. The farmers in those regions are mostly ignorant of the other equipment manufacturers.

Guess farmers like me are just blessed to have this: National Farm Machine Show.

Deere stuff is more comfortable than the competition. Their cabs are roomier, with wider seats and bigger cupholders. Some models have a little refrigerator in the cab, even.

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives

Remove the customers' right to repair and then raise repair prices.

The ripoff is so blatantly obvious ffs
