This enforcement action marks the first significant implementation of India’s 2022 regulatory framework governing VPN apps. The rules mandate that VPN providers and cloud service operators maintain comprehensive records of their customers, including names, addresses, IP addresses and transaction histories, for a five-year period.

Another post yesterday mentioned police coming to their house asking whether they used signal. Clearly something is happening here.

This is really bad not only for India but for international impact as well. Freedom and privacy are dying if you think about the percentage of people living in more Democratic counties

This is where US should step in but they with EU & UK likely have similar goals.

When the US "steps in" it doesn't go well. It is better for the US to fund and develop democracy and privacy supporting tools.

I really meant in theory or given that India is a democratic country, the kind of global news or the environment that have developed after the pandemic… doesn’t seem bright. Like you’ve the EU that’s very vocal to UN and yet the arabs can get away with beheadings to Korea with dictatorship in this 21st Century, you’d at least want a democratic to not lose its democracy and the said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is already in his third term while seeking to cement his place permanent.

I sideloaded an iPA file (iOS) and the button to enable VPN would get stuck even if it has MASQUE protocol that’s FIPS compliant.
